Homestay Experience design
Our Objective.
To study the local culture and arts in Maharajganj (West Bengal District) and help expand and enhance their home-stay initiative while safeguarding and improving the lifestyle of the locals.
The villagers opened their hearts and homes to us.

she concluded, was a perverted practice"
Namkhana was, for the longest time, the victim of horrible child trafficking practices and cases of child marriage and gender inequality.
A resident Shukla stubbornly refuses to let her daughter go through what she went through and calls it an unethical practice that needs to be stopped at all costs.
Utilizing the importance of youth power, Thoughtshop Foundation understood the effects of building the youth’s internal resources that would later be forwarded to the parents as well as help the community grow.. The empowered youth of Maharajganj have forged the village’s new identity to the envy of the neighbouring villages.

Too often people worry about external resources with the exception of all else. The residents of Namkhana instead choose to focus on their internal resources with astounding results. Child marriage, dowry and child trafficking slowly have dwindled and reduced in drastic numbers setting a healthy example to the other villages and districts.
Self-Sustainability carries forward to the community
Internal and external resources come together to help the family become self-sustaining through various group initiatives, helping thus the community to grow together.
The Ideation.
We ideated on creating a viable ecosystem and services for the namkhanna districts Home-stay initiative while safeguarding their space .
Wall of memories can be incorporated into homes and can act as a point of discussion during the homestay experience.

Homestays can be scheduled as a seasonal festival experience. The families can view it as a new experience in their monotonous life.

Community halls / cultural events can be held where individual talents and thoughts can be displayed and also bring the community together.

Men could be included more in the homestay activities, like being involved as boatsmen or drivers for the tourists, providing them with a source of income too.
They can also participate in the welcoming ceremony breaking the stigma that its a woman role.

With many people from the city wanting to interact with animals, domesticated cows and calves can be a part of the homestay ritual, and can be petted and fed,
Concepts.

Each homestay can have its own specific recipe/secret/product to sell that can later be converted into a subscription system.
Movie nights can be held to get the community together and increase cultural exposure.

Authentic local Gifts / Hampers can be sent to the families of guest to stay connected as well as help encourage the local arts and crafts.
